Frequently Asked Questions

What does this tool do?

It reads image metadata (EXIF/IPTC/XMP) so you can see details like GPS, timestamps, and camera settings, and removes that metadata in one click for privacy.

Are my photos uploaded or stored anywhere?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser; files never leave your device.

How do I batch‑clean images now that the button is merged?

Add your images, then click Clean & ZIP All. The tool removes metadata and gives you a ZIP of the cleaned files in one step.

Which formats can be cleaned losslessly? What about HEIC/AVIF?

JPEG, PNG, and WebP can be cleaned losslessly (pixels unchanged). AVIF/HEIC can usually be viewed if your browser supports them; to remove their metadata, convert to a standard format first, then clean.

Will cleaning change image quality?

No—lossless cleaning removes only metadata from supported formats. The image pixels are not recompressed.

Why did my photo look rotated after cleaning? Some photos rely on the EXIF Orientation tag. Removing metadata clears that tag. If you need the rotation baked into pixels, re‑encode before cleaning (you can use the Image Converter).
Can I remove only GPS/location and keep other tags?

This page focuses on one‑click full metadata removal. Field‑by‑field editing isn’t provided here.

Are there watermarks, usage limits, or file‑size caps?

No watermarks or artificial limits. Practical limits depend on your device and browser memory with very large batches.

How do I verify metadata is gone?

Open the cleaned download back in the viewer (or any other metadata tool) and confirm GPS, camera info, and other fields are empty.

Can I restore stripped metadata later?

No. Once saved without metadata, it can’t be recovered from the cleaned file. Keep an original if you might need the data.

Does this work on mobile?

Yes—modern mobile browsers work. For large jobs, a desktop browser will be faster and more stable.

I also need to rotate, resize, or change formats—how?Use the Image Converter to re‑encode (which also strips EXIF); then clean if needed.
