Common Unit Converter

Convert between popular units quickly and privately in your browser. Pick a category, enter a value, choose units, and copy the result. Digital storage supports both SI (kB, MB) and IEC (KiB, MiB) bases.

Tip: You can type numbers like 1e6, 1,234.5, or -40 (for temperatures). Digital storage can switch between SI (1000) and IEC (1024) bases.

Quick presets

Notes: Temperature uses exact formulas (°C, °F, K, °R). Volume includes US and Imperial variants. “calorie (kcal)” on food labels equals 1,000 small calories. Digital storage supports both SI (kB, MB = 1000) and IEC (KiB, MiB = 1024).

Unit Converter – FAQ

Which unit categories are supported?Length, Mass, Area, Volume (US & Imperial), Speed, Time, Pressure, Energy, Power, Temperature, and Data (SI 1000 / IEC 1024).

How accurate are the conversions?Exact formulas are used where applicable (e.g., °C↔°F↔K, Rankine). Linear units use standard factors (e.g., 1 in = 2.54 cm, 1 mi = 1609.344 m). Rounding is controlled by the Decimals setting and trailing zeros are trimmed for readability.

What’s the difference between SI (kB, MB) and IEC (KiB, MiB) data units?SI uses powers of 1000 (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes). IEC uses powers of 1024 (1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes). Use the “Data base” toggle to switch.

Do you support US vs. Imperial volume units?Yes. Separate units are provided (e.g., gal_us vs gal_imp, fl_oz_us vs fl_oz_imp) because their sizes differ.

Can I type numbers like 1e6 or use commas?Yes. Inputs accept scientific notation (e.g., 1e6) and common decimal formats (e.g., 1,234.5).

How do negative temperatures work?Negative values are supported (e.g., −40 °C). Temperature conversions use exact affine formulas between °C, °F, K, and °R.

Is anything sent to a server? No. Everything runs in your browser. Your settings may be saved locally via localStorage to remember the last used category and units.

Will it work offline and on mobile?Yes. It’s a client-side tool optimized for desktop and mobile. If your browser has the page cached, it also works offline.

Why don’t currency conversions appear?Currency isn’t included because it needs live exchange rates. If you want it, we can add a separate currency tool with on-page rates.

Any assumptions or edge cases I should know?
  • Time: 1 year = 365 days (no leap adjustments).
  • Energy: “kcal” on food labels = 1000 small calories.
  • Floating-point: Very large/small numbers may show tiny rounding artifacts—adjust Decimals if needed.

Can you add angles, frequency, torque, or luminance?Absolutely—tell me what you need and I’ll extend the categories and presets to match your use-case.
